PHASE 4 - Bridge Construction
The construction for the Peruvian Bridge Project was divided into three phases. The first phase is mobilization, followed by Construction I, and Construction II. The actual construction schedule is summarized in the graphic below.
Construction I includes site preparation as well as, the fabrication of the north and south foundation/abutments. Site preparation will begin after community mobilization and includes the placement of a temporary crossing and collection of local aggregate. Work on the abutments will not commence until the arrival of sufficient materials, however, the entirety of materials need not be on site for work to begin. The north and south foundation/abutment shall be worked on simultaneously and the completion of one is not dependent on the other.
Construction II includes the installation of cable and decking. Construction II may not begin until Construction I is entirely complete. The walkway cable (one continuous cable) will be installed first, wrapping the cable fully around the south anchor, then affixing to north anchor and tightening. The handrail cables, one for either side, will each be affixed to u-shaped rebar fabricated into the north and south piers. Cable installation must be done in entirety before installation of decking can begin. Mobilization and Construction I will begin before the arrival of the Continental Crossings team on May 17, 2007.
